Hey Guys......Posted so many pictures of my 17th Century Flintlock that I ran out of room to give the info on the rifle This rifle is a 1600-1602 flintlock used by the Moors who were tribal Muslims who imgrated to Spain from Africa. They were know as the Black Moors, and they were tough as nails. They dominated Spain for 700 year. The Moors were themselves an ethnically diverse culture, including both crude Berber tribesman from Morocco and sophisticated rulers from old Arab families therefore being devout Muslims. The entire rifle is inlaid with silver and gold. On one side next and just in front of the trigger guard is a true RUBY. This rifle was made for a high tribal member, possibly a leader I think the caliber is .65. If you would like to see another of this kind, type in "YOU TUBE 17th CENTURY FLINTLOCK." I hope you enjoy it as I do.........The very best and HH.....Oledigger Don......NC

I have seen many works of the Moors when I lived in Sicily. They ruled the island from 965 AD to 1061 AD before being driven out by the Normans. The stone watch towers were a site to behold as well as the other Moorish architecture that still stands and is in use as of this day. But I have never seen such an exquisite piece as you have shared with us this day. That is one fine weapon, how on earth did you ever come by that one?

Digger, If I had to guess then I would say he picked it up in either Barcelona or Granada. I have seen the best pieces in those two cities. I have traveled mostly in the south of Spain in the Costa del Sol region, also in and around the cities adjacent to Gibraltar, mostly Rota and Porto de Santa Maria from whence Columbus set sail. I saw many fine antiques that were way out of my price range at the time. That was over 25 years ago and I hope to get back and do some more traveling/shopping in the coming years, and when I do I plan to be armed with plenty of Euros, or Pesetas if that is still what they use. I can only hope to see something as fine as the Moorish musket you have shared with us. |

Nope Kbaker. Glad it doesn't. Anyway, I'm not willing to try it because of it's age and condition.....Wouldn't want to damage such a beautiful piece. Tks for asking .......Oledigger

I agree with ConfCav -- if that piece could only talk. Two more thoughts: can you imagine what that beauty looked like new? and can you imagine digging one of those up? Wow, be still my heart!
