| Hi All......Just purchased this beautiful authentic 6th Corps Infantry Badge and wanted to share it with you. Am told that it was worn by a soldier from Vermont in the 6th Corps. History.........The Corps was organized May 18, 1862. On June 20th, 1862 the Corps numbered 24,91 men present and absent with 19,405 present for duty, equipped and 40 pieces of artillery. Battles fought in............Manassas (2nd Bull Run), Gaines Mill, Malvern Hill, Seven Day's Battle, Antietam, Fredricksburg, Wilderness, Gettysburg, Petersburg, and the last fight at Sailors Creek following Lee on his retreat in gthe final day. ......The 6th Corps was mainly made up of Vermonters though there were other states in the Corps. During the war they suffered heavy casualties among killed and wounded. I hope this little bit of info helps us appreciate the sacrifice of these brave and noble men of the 6th Corps union.... .Have a great day and weekend....Oledigger....Don. ...NC |
